The Color Of Your Ceiling Matters!

Jacobsen Brothers Painting • December 6, 2021

Most people don’t give much thought to the color of their ceilings. However, this is not ideal if you want a finish that turns heads. To do this, you should consider the effect that the color of your ceiling will have on the rest of the room.

Contrary to popular belief, the color of your ceiling doesn’t only affect the aesthetics of the room. It can also change the feel. Some colors provide a warmer and more welcoming feeling, whereas others make the room appear more spacious.

In this article, we are going to talk about what you should consider when painting your ceiling. We will talk about the effects that lighter and darker colors have. We will also give you tips on the best way to paint your ceiling depending on what room you’re painting and what look you’re going for.

Painting it White

If you’re having trouble coming up with
house painting ideas , we recommend painting your ceiling white. Having a white ceiling makes the room appear more spacious, which could raise the value of your home.

In addition, a white ceiling makes your home look modern. Even if you use a different color for your walls, a white ceiling still looks great. This, however, can’t always be said for other colors.

Most white ceilings are going to maintain their color. However, kitchen ceilings may become clogged with grease over a long period. This means they need to be painted at least once a year.

Matching it With Your Walls

Matching your ceiling paint with the color of your walls may be a viable option, although it depends on the type of room. In most cases, matching the ceiling and wall paint makes a room look smaller. This can be great for bathrooms and closets.

Matching colors also work well for living rooms with high ceilings, as it makes the ceilings appear lower. This will give the room a cozier feel than it had before.

Painting it Darker Than Your Walls

Painting your ceiling darker than the walls has a similar effect to matching your wall and ceiling color. It’s going to make the room appear smaller and more intimate.

While large homes are what everybody talks about, smaller spaces often feel welcoming in a way that large ones don’t. Luckily, you can make a home feel more inviting by painting the ceiling darker than the walls.

A darker ceiling catches people’s attention and adds contrast. A room with white walls and a black ceiling will stand out.

All in all, we recommend keeping the ceiling a few shades darker than the walls for the best results.

Painting it Lighter Than Your Walls

Painting your ceiling lighter than the walls has the opposite effect. It’s going to make the room appear larger and more spacious. We wouldn’t recommend this for rooms that are supposed to feel relaxing.

However, this technique is perfect for a kitchen. After all, the more spacious your kitchen the better.

With that being said, you still need to make sure the colors match. For example, it wouldn’t be a good idea to have a yellow ceiling and green walls. These colors don’t compliment each other and could make you feel claustrophobic, and who wants that in their own house?
